What?
This position manages all freight and small package shipments to meet or exceed the customers’ requirements and expectations. The Transportation Specialist will select the best transportation provider to make the delivery or pick up on time. This position is accountable for developing a book of transportation providers, illustrating their cost and time in transit for each lane we use to pick up or deliver.
Main aspects of the role include:
- Identifies and selects carriers (to comply with DOT regulations) and negotiates service and rates in compliance with PUC and ICC regulations.
- Compiles export information required for each country and provides to freight forwarders. Ensures all USDA certificates, inspector stamping of product and other requirements are accurately completed. Prepares Broker Letters of Instructions and inland bills of lading.
- Creates Bill of Ladings (BOL) for both incoming and outgoing shipments from all OFD facilities.
- Assigned to a variety of clerical tasks; i.e. inbound/outbound scheduling, processing receiving documents, reviewing and approving freight invoices checking in and out DC guests and or Drivers and answering phones.
- Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, outside Governmental agencies via phone, FAX and e-mail.

- Noise level in the work environment can be loud
- Regular requirement to stand, walk, climb, push, pull, reach, carry, and lift and twist
- Must be able to regularly lift 15 pounds and up to 50 pounds
OFD contains office, manufacturing and outdoor workspaces where this position is required to access and work. The position requires a person to be able to frequently walk, stand and climb; bend and twist; see, hear and talk; use hands to type, handle or feel tools, controls; use hands and arms to reach, hold and carry tools or items. This position also requires a person to handle environments of varied temperatures and with various food allergens present; and be comfortable at various heights.
You!
This position is available to current OFD employees only. This individual will have 1-3 years of experience in all phases of traffic and shipping to include tariff rate structure, PUC, and ICC regulations. Additionally, experience in export and government documentation and shipping requirements is preferred. It is essential for this person to have basic math ability, including 10-key calculator, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including telephone skills. Additionally, reliable transportation is necessary with the requirement to be able to transport between company locations. The ability obtain certification is Hazardous Material Handling/Shipping within 6 months.
